Names listed are recognized students that obtained Shodan Rank in Kosho Ryu from Great Grand Master James M. Mitose and his son Great Grand Master Thomas B. Mitose. As time passed and the retirement of James Mitose in 1953, various events took place that although students left the Mitose ideals of martial arts, his teachings were passed on in some way.

Thomas Young - Known as Professor Young, continued to teach Kosho - Ryu, after James Mitose's retirement.

William Chow - Known as Professor William K. S. chow, departed and is said to have concentrated on his fathers art, Kara Ho becoming the founder/originator. His disciples include Ed Parker (Father of American Kenpo), Adriano Emperaldo (Grand Master of KAJUKENBO), Masaichi Oshiro (TE-KEN JUTSU KAI), William Q. C. Chun (GO SHIN JITSU - KAI Chinese Kempo). And continued to be passed on from these Grand Masters to others such as Al Dacascos (WON HOP KUEN DO), Jim & Al Tracy (TRACY'S Kenpo), Benny Urquidez (UKIDOKAN Karate), Fred Villari (SHOALIN Kempo Karate), and on and on. This is just to mention a few for the tree spreads out.

Edward Lowe - Associated with Mas Oyama and opened a Kyokushenkai dojo.

It must be noted that in the Mitose system as indicated in the ranking structure. Instructors can promote students up to the rank of Brown Belt. Once a student reaches that rank, they must study under the Great Grand Master to obtain their Shodan (Black Belt) rank. However, to understand further, example: Students under Bill Tolentino are of Shodan rank, however brought up by Mr. Tolentino studied under the Great Grand Master for their Shodan rank.
